Laramie V. Potts, PhD, MBA, GISP

Principal GIS Specialist

BIO

Dr. Laramie Potts is the Principal GIS Specialist at the firm. Dr. Potts is an expert in geospatial analytics, geosensing, surveying, and geodetic science with emphasis on the developing estimation techniques for the ever more complex survey observation models in order to enhance the retrieval of valuable information from the measurements in terms of accuracy and reliability of survey control.

Dr. Potts is the Director of the Surveying Engineering Technology program at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he is involved physical surveying includes modeling (regional and local) crustal mass variations from gravity and topography data. His research activities on space weather utilize dual frequency geodetic measurements and solar indices to update predictive models on ionospheric electron density variations and delays for surveying measurements. His also focused on real-time Geospatial Infrastructure Information Management Systems (GIIMS). He authored and co-authored more than 50 journal and conference presentations on geophysical modeling, geospatial data analysis, and GIS applications. He is a member of the North American Geoid Project which aims to support geoid (and gravity field) theories and specifications in the US and other countries and serves on the Coordinate Advisory Board for NJSPLS and is a member of the NJGF elevation task group. Dr. Potts received his Masters and PhD from Ohio State University in Geodetic Science and his Bachelor of Science in Land Surveying from the University of Cape Town. He is also a Certified GIS Professional (GISP).
